With the introduction of high resolution mobile cameras and DSLR’s Film making has become an inexpensive option.
To make our members expert in digital film making NBT Rangmanch Club brings a special workshop on Digital Film Making. Where member would get practical learning of film making.
The Detail Syllabus is given below-
Day – 1
Script
• Scriptwriting Process and it’s various phases
• Film Grammar for Scriptwriting
• Story: Pitching a Story (includes Shot, scene, sequence)
• Outline: Attempt at putting a story into a dramatic structure from catalyst to climax, identifying the beginning, middle & end of the story, the theme and concept.
• Treatment: Structure & Composition, the more detailed version of Story told in scenes with plots, characters and dialogues
• First Draft: The first version of the story in a screenplay format
• Polishes: Purpose of smoothing out the rough edges of First draft created by the changes, and to address issues within scenes.
• Second Draft: A finer & polish version of First Draft
• Additional Drafts / Final Draft: Matching, Framing and Final Composition. Ensuring the script to be screenworthy and ready to shoot.
• Various Drafts of Scripts from Hollywood Films will be shown to students. This will help them to understand the industry standard approaches of writing scripts.
• Students have to complete 1 script (no longer than 4 mins) as an assignment
Day – 2
Pre-production-Chapter 1
Digital Video Cinematography
• This class focuses on advanced digital video cinematography techniques for both studio and field. Students will operate HD video cameras, use lights, and determine set and lighting
• Needs, roll and need of a jib, block scenes and become familiar with topics including filmspace, continuity, lenses, color, filters and camera control.
Introduction to Digital Video Cinematography
• Cinematography, Interactivity and emotions through Cinematography, Building blocks, Compositions
Lenses and Cameras
• Types of lenses: Zoom Lens, Prime Lens
• Types of Cameras: HD Cameras, Basics of Film Camera, Difference between Film Camera and Digital Camera, DSLR and HDSLR Cameras
• Lighting, Psychology of light, Visual Environment, Directional Effect of Light, Lighting design process
• Three-point lighting, High-Key lighting, Low Key lighting
• Construction of a Shot, Color, Contrast, Deep Focus, Shallow Focus, Depth of Filed, Exposure, Racking focus, Frame Rate, Telephoto shot, Zoom shot.
• Framing, Angle of Framing, Aspect Ratio, Level of Framing, Canted Framing, Following Shot, Reframing, Point-Of-View shot, Wide angle Lens
• Scale, Extreme long shot, Long shot, Medium long shot, Medium Close-up, Close-up, Extreme Close-up
• Space, Deep space, Frontality, Matte shot, Offscreen space, Shallow space
• Movement of Camera, Crane Shot, Handheld Camera, Steady Shot, Pan, Tilt, Tracking shot, Whip Pan.
• Working with Audio, Capturing Audio while shooting, Recording Audio with HDSLR Video Camera, Importance of Audio while shooting.
• Costume, Acting and Typage
• Direction, Screenplay, Role of Directors, Vision of Directors, Screenplay and it’s presentation, Scene Analysis, Working with Actors.
Day – 3
Digital Video Editing (Refer Digital Video Editing with FCP X syllabus for detail)
• This class focuses on advanced digital video editing techniques where student will learn the basic as well as advanced level of Video Editing with Final Cut Pro X. The Following chapters will be covered in detail:
Introduction to Video Editing & System requirements
1. Effective Editing
• Principles of Video Editing Non-Linear Editing (NLE) Concept The Three-Point Edit
• Non-Linear Editing (NLE) Techniques
• Working in the Timeline Transitions Keyframing
2. Applying Filters
• Ingesting
• Advanced Editing Techniques
• NLE Compositing
• Color Correction & Color Grading Working on Audio
• Titling
3. Discussing the script and rehearsals of the actors
Day – 4
Pre-production-Chapter 2
• Activities between Final Draft and the First day of shooting
• Goals of Pre-production as Directors and Producers
Casting Exercises (First)
• Choosing actors/actresses for the main characters, Recording each actors/actresses in the same way, with same text and same frame.
Casting Exercise (Second)
• Choosing the final cast among several shortlisted casts from the First Casting Exercise
Actors Exercise
• Taking one scene from the script and realizing it with two different approaches based on the script but allowing some improvisation to see how written characters can be adapted to the personality of living actors.
One Scene, Two approaches (The Master Shot & Coverage Shots):
• Recording one scene with a single moving shot and recording the same shot with multiple small shots
Opening Scene
• Shooting the first scene from the film in a few different ways to get proper visual language and rhythm for the entire project
Climax Exercise
• Focus and find the best way to present the final moment (final scene)
Storyboard
• How written words can be translated into Visual, Distinguishing characters, Coverage (how characters fit into the Frame and how frame angle matters), Camera movement
Day – 5 & 6
Production, Post-Production & Distribution
5. Production
• Shooting, Directing the actors, Directing the camera and working with the crew
6. Post Production / Final Project
• Editing Video, Rough cuts and Final cuts
• Editing Audio, Sound Effects, Scoring, Pre-mix and Final mix Transferring Final edit to appropriate media
• Students have to edit 2 short films as their final project
7. Distribution
• Film distribution, Digital distribution, Various ways of distribution
