NBT Rangmanch Club brings to you a very interesting heritage walk in association with Shahjahanabadi Foundation where expert Mr. Abhishek Jain will take you to various beautifully designed places near Chandni Chowk old Delhi. So please come and join this walk with your friends to explore the unseen parts of Old Delhi.

Mahalla Heritage walk will start from Kucha Seth to gated Mahalla of Shahjahanabad called Dharampura . In this walk we will cover the story of evolution of a community based Mahalla in city of Shahjahanabad ruring Mughal era which used to be a Haveli of Ustad Hamid, builder of Red Fort.

In this walk we will take you through several Jain temples with Heritage Value which acted as nucleus for all the intangible heritage associated with the community and Mahalla which are hidden within their architectural beauty and  craftsmanship in marble and sandstone with beautiful gold leaf works and traditional ventilation and cooling systems. With this system of Shahjahanabadi Mahalla alleys and socio-cultural heritage related to community will also be explored. While understanding their unique historical architectural typology, important nodes for Mahalla’s social life and community facilities will be discussed along with the role of Mughal architecture in reinforcing the same in historical buildings.

Havelis (Shahjahanabadi Mansions) their symbolic ornamentation and architectural value which speak about its lost glory will be unravelled. We will be taking you through some old Havelis and other converted buildings and the world of Jain heritage which has a direct impact on physical living style and urban organic growth of Mahalla. During the walk you will also get to enjoy some known Shahjahanabadi cuisine.

Schedule of the walk in pointers:

1.  Mahalla heritage walk will start from the main gate of Kucha Seth to gated Mahalla of Shahjahanabad called Dharampura.

2. From there onwards, after understanding history and evolution of Mahalla with its urban structure, we will see trail of Heritage Jain temples from Mughal era around 6 in number made in different times with a hybridized form of architectural patterns and ornamentation with associated intangible heritage.

3. While having some Shahjahanabadi Dharampura specific food we will listen to old stories of glory and grandeur of festivals, which still takes place since Mughal’s time.

4. On the way we will understand some different architectural typologies of Shahjahanabadi Havelis while seeing their ornamentation and architecture & Much more on the site.
